[RESOLVED] check if name exists in a row

Hi! this question may have been posed before but i i dont know what to search for so i've just made a new thread..

i'm making a small voting system where each member only can vote once.. I've never done this before, but i thought i could do this by inserting the members name in the votes row like ths: member1, member2, member3.

But then I need a way to check if the members name exists in that row..

Can anyone help me out here, or tell me an other way to sort this out?

SELECT member FROM voters WHERE member='$member';

If it returns a row, that member is in your table.

Edit: Wait. You're not storing member names all in a single row, are you? That's a REALLY bad idea. Store them each in a separate row in a table named 'voters', for example.

maybe it was'nt that easy after all, i'm having more than one name in the rows you know... and it doesnt seem to work.. :S

edit: i figured out a way 🙂
