content management packages?

I have two broad questions on use of content management packages such as php-WMCS / php Nuke - and my need to create

a php site that would allow users to update content via an on-line admin module.

Firstly, what do packages such as php-WMCS / php Nuke offer? Which package is most suited to a relative newbie in php?

Secondly, which package would offer the capability to develop a php site whereby users could update content using an online

admin module - is this standard functionality in these packages.

I've already created a php site using OScommerce - i think i'm really looking for guidance on where to take my learning next - with a view to creating a php site that allows users to update content themselves.

Grateful for any thoughts.

Mambo is one of the most fully featured I've seen and a real doddle to set up.

Personally if its a relatively simple CMS you want to build i would build one yourself. I bought this book, written by some of the fine folks who frequent/moderate this forum and it tells you how to build a cms. Plus if you stumble across problems then people on here are always happy to help out

I've used several (Nuke, e107, Xoops, Drupal, etc.) and what suits me best is Drupal. My website at KerryOnWorld is a Drupal based CMS site and I've been pleased with it since switching several months ago.

Every CMS package has different features (some overlapping). Its a matter of what you are trying to accomplish. If you want to keep things simple and not have all the bells and whistles, Drupal should do the trick. It has a good community support and scales well for small to medium sized websites. The administration module is pretty easy to use and setup. It took me less time to install Drupal and get things running than all the others (less than 10 minutes). Setting up stories, pages, polls, customizeable blocks, etc. is an easy manner. The user access control and statistics module are excellent. Everything in the control panel is pretty self explanatory. One nice thing is that they have taken the time to create really good user documentation as well (which the others I find lacking).
