Hi ho,
I've been tinkering around with PHP for about 3 or 4 years now and recently I have aquired an urge to move on and try a new language.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with PHP and as far as internet programming vibes go I don't think it can be beaten. However, my main goal now is to get away from internet web development and to start building offline applications that do can basically do everything that a PHP/MySQL based website can do (graphically and otherwise) BUT without the need for using a web browser (such as internet explorer).
Anyway, whilst I like to think I'm fairly fluent in PHP I make no secret of the fact that I'm clueless in all other languages. So, I wonder if you could give me a hand to make my decision.
Right now I'm torn between C++ and Visual Basic. From what I've heard C++ is similar to PHP and is much more powerful than Visual Basic. However, Visual Basic is meant to be (as far as I can tell) a lot easier to learn than C++.
Could anyone offer any advice as I ponder this crucial and potentially life changing decision?
(PS- have tried Google, but not good information available so far)
