File & Database Matching

Hi to All

I've Auto IDs in my MySQL database, My Assistant scanned pictures and renamed it as 01.jpg, 02.gif, 03.jpg, 04.gif, 0056.jpg and so on....

Now the challenge, In My database all IDs are 1,2,3,5,56 and so on...

How do i match the ID of database with scanned pictures so, i can update the picture column of my table with that scanned picture file name.

what about this:

i typically do that same thing: use the PK field from the db as the filenames. i then have a field in the db called "ext" that stores the file extension. this is unecessary if you are sure that all your files will have the same extesion.

In my eyes, this doesnt make sense..
Why 1 zero in front of 1-9, and 2 zeros in front of nr > 9 ?

Ok, I would make a quick script to iterate through the files, renaming them from 1.ext -> 56.ext
Then it would be supereasy to use those picture combined with the database, just like devinemke writes.

The method kakki describes should work though, even though its a mess if you are unsure of the link (file<->db).

Note: Also remember
$id = (int) 045; // $id = 45;
use sprintf instead if it gets to that. 🙂

Yeah you are right, it would be better to first rename the files and then do the matching stuff.
I Could use strtr('0','',$filename)

to remove the zeroes and replace it by no space, but how would i only remove the leading zeroes and not zeroes within the number

for eg i wish to remove any no. of leading zeroes e.g. 0000505.jpg
it should be 505.jpg

but at the same time not remove zeroes 0000505.jpg with in the number
it should be 505.jpg

Any help on this i would appreciate it.
