Problem with images/transperancy

Hi!

I'm working with a project for creating digital artworks dynamically;

The user uploads an EPS file with logo
He specifies a background color
The EPS logo is placed at a certain position at a rectangle in the selected background color.

The reason it must be an EPS file is that I don't know how to handle the transperancy problem with regular JPEG's.

So, now I need either a class/extension/command-line tool that can put the EPS file on a colored background, and then save it as an JPEG -Or some way to make an JPEG transparent nicely.

I have googled a lot but not found any answers, so I really hope you can help me 🙂

JPEG's cannot be transparent, and PHP probably isn't going to know what an EPS file is since that's a proprietary image format. Try using a GIF or a PNG.

I know they can't. But I can replace a color with the background color, and make them "transparent" that way. But I still need to make a JPEG of an EPS.
I can't make them use GIF or PNG! EPS is industry standard.

There has to be a way to handle EPS files? I've heard of several extensions for ASP?

I've heard of Ghostscript.

But then, I've also heard of Google, so I went there and searched for "convert JPEG to EPS". The first hit I found was http://wwwrses.anu.edu.au/~andy/jpeg2eps/ and the program it describes is even named in the conventional "foo2bar" format for conversion utility names.

Thank you, but I want to convert an EPS to JPEG, not the way in your link (JPEG to EPS). I have googled a lot about ghostscript, but I don't understand how to use it to convert a eps to jpeg via the console?

Well, I've never tried it from the commandline before now, but I get results from GhostScript with

gs -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -q -sDEVICE=jpeg -sOutputFile=[i]outputfile.jpeg[/i] [i]inputfile.eps[/i]

I cobbled that together from looking at Ghoscript's documentation.
