Customizing User Page help

Hello,

I am a n00b in the php/mysal universe, but I do have experience in designing websites in Adobe Golive. I have recently done a lot of reading into the subject, and I feel like I have a pretty good understanding of the basics. Here is my question…

For the sake of keeping it simple… Let say I have a site set up to promote local musicians. When a player comes to my site, they have the option of signing up to receive a user name and password. No problem, but how would I set it up so when they sign on, they are led to a generic page where they fill in there own info, when they are done, the page is save with their name. (theirname.html) Obviously whenever they logon, they are taken to their page to edit it anytime they need.

I don’t expect anyone to answer all theses questions, but if someone could point me in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated!

basically you staore all there info in a database. you then make one php page (call it bands.php), which you pass the band name through the querystring (the bit in an address after the ?, look at the address in the nav now). you then retrieve this data from the querystring, and pull the relevent data from the database.

a simple example bands.php

  $band = $_GET['band']; // this get the band name from the querystring

  // query the database for the bands data
  $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM bandtable WHERE bandname = $band;");

  // loop through the result and display the bands info
  while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) {
    echo $row['bandname'].'<br />';
    echo $row['bandbio'].'<br />';

So using the same concept you would have them fill out a generic form asking about them, the data is stored in their database. This data is accessed when someone searches that band name, all the bands info is stored in default variables that are displayed in the band.php page.

Lets say i want the users to be able to tell their buddies to check out thier page.
How would you make it so thier page address would be
<---www.mydomain.com/thiername.html--->
