Stop Writing to a file

Ok..yesterday maxpup979 helped me get my archive news code working. the problem is that it will not remove it from the file. here is what I got:

#Loop to see if this article will cause the old news to be archived
$fcontents = join ( '', file ( "news.html"));
$fp = fopen ("news.html", "w");
$stories = explode("<!--Delimiter-->",$fcontents);

#Loop to see if this article will cause the old news to be archived
for($x=0;$x<count($stories);$x++){
    if($x==6){
    #this is the 6th story--I want to archive it.
    $storyarchive = $stories[$x];
    }
}

#The rest of the code goes to the actual writing of the news from the form, which I could post if needed, but its pretty basic.

$fs = fopen ("news_archive.html", "a");
fwrite ($fs, $storyarchive);
fclose($fs);[/PHp]

It writes to the file fine when it is the 6th story, the problem is it wont remove it from the file when writing back to it.

This is #2 code.  This one writes the news back to the news html file twice.  the first one has no <!--Delimiter-->'s to it, and below that it has the regular news.  It does write to the archive also.  Basically I just add an 'else' statement in:

I know it is gonna be something just overlooked, or something..any ideas?

can you describe or show us the contents, I guess in news.html, you get with this not working script
and
tell us what you want to get instead

to me it is not clear what goes wrong

basically this is a simple and easy script to fix

This is the "news.html". I would like to move each news section after say the 5th, to "news_archive.html". (which I will probably rewrite a bit to archive off to a "month_year.html" file)

So..That is how it should look in both the "news.html" and the "news_archive.html". Note I have also tried putting the  on the beginning and end of the news story, it doesnt work well.

When I run the code, it runs perfectly like that for each file. However, its the 5th news story (old story) that is not geting deleted.

Basically it just copies over to the "news_archive.html" and not delete from the "news.html"

I tried alot of things yesterday, and came up with the same thing almost every time. I got it to work somewhat, but the formatting was messed up when writing back.

Im so close I can taste it, its gonna be something I didnt put in the right place I know it...its the carrot on the stick in front of me. lol

Anyone have a resolution for this? I am still not able to get it working. I have since moved on to other things. Please! =)
