on my current gentoo system i have my partitions setup like so...
/dev/hda1 /boot ext2 defaults,noatime 1 1
/dev/hda2 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/hda3 / ext3 noatime 0 0
/dev/hda4 /home ext3 noatime 0 0
if i wanted to keep my /home partition intact, but completely repartition and rebuild my system am i correct in assuming i can just delete the ones i dont want and go from there?
i know its not really the gentoo way, as i have kept it up to date, so its not like im getting a new system. its just this was my first gentoo install, and i think i went a bit overboard with the USE flags and id'e really like to clean it up a bit. i seem to be getting allot of blocked packages, plus at the time i had to hack php5 a bit to get it working, seems now there is a proper ebuild in the works.
so yeah, basicaly. is my data in /home safe? i realise theres going to be certain config files in there that might need changing, but i was actually thinking of just creating a new account, moving all my stuff (mp3s,pics,ebooks etc etc) into that, then make the new system, add my new thorpe account, and copy it all back over.
im sure this is how it works.... just wanted to check first.
