[RESOLVED] Lost MySQL after RPM

Hello all. I am just now installing a LAMP server after 2 years of playing with PHP and MySQL. I figure it cant be too hard....even with minimal experience with Linux.

I already have Apache running and serving on RH 9.0. I can access the server from anywhere onthe network.

Now I am trying to install MySQL, then PHP and PERL.

I got the RPM and installed it.

It was located in /home/root/ when I ran rpm -i MySQL*

It told me to go to /usr/bin/mysqladmin and to change the password. Sounds simple enough...

The problem is that I cannot find this directory. When I run a search on the computer using the GUI, it doesnt find mysql either.

Anyone have any ideas where it would be? It is version 4.1...and it told me during the install to go to that directory...

Ok...so I found MySQL. It is in the /usr/bin/ dir. but the mysqladmin script or whatever isnt there. So how do I change the passwords?

I think I should mention that I am following along a book by RedHat Press called Red Hat Linux Internet Server.

In this book, the current MySQL version is 3.23.52. Maybe that's why I can't find the mysqladmin script. Did it change to just mysql or something?

Look in the mysql documentation, there is a section on securing your new mysql server including a description of how to change passwords. mysqladmin is on my Fedora server. Maybe you skipped an rpm when installing? IIRC there are separate rpm's for client and server parts.

Couldnt figure out how to fix it. I did figure out how to change passwords though...

To fix the issue, I just rebuilt the system and installed mysql from binary.
