mail() delivery receipt

Hi,

I've currently got a simple php script that sends emails out and asks for a read receipt from the recipient;

$headers .= "Disposition-Notification-To:<[e-mail]>\r\n";

This is all well and good if the user clicks the 'send read receipt' confirmation. however they may not.

Is there anyway I can 'prove' that the email was sent in the first place i.e. a delivery (as opposed to receipt) confirmation ?

Sure, use Mail::send() , use the smtp delivery option and check the response.

The smtp option will allow you to connect directly with an smtp server and get a more thorough response back. If the smtp server gives you a thumbs up then you can bet the recipient will get the email unless there is something wrong off your smtp servers network.

You CAN'T guarantee they will read the email though and that a spam filter doesn't grab it.
