Web 2.0 web apps (with PHP)

Round Cube is a really nice email client. I put this on my local server and it works with my website email. Some pretty nice features on this:

Plus, it's quite gorgeous.

Edit: Let's amend this to include things that fit under the idea/banner/concept of "Web 2.0" whatever that really is. Certainly, the concept is open for debate as to whether it's a real thing or simply hype. Personally, I believe it's mostly a real thing and that there is a good amount of background hype and the garbage that goes along with it.

Ning is a free online service (or, as we like to call it, a Playground) for building and using social applications. Social apps are web applications that enable anyone to match, transact, and communicate with other people.

The new Wordpress has a pretty good interface (much improved). Alot of javascript (I'm not sure if Ajax is in here or not) stuff is happening.

Erm... for those that aren't working in a techy world at the moment, whats web 2.0? I've heard a bit about it, but no where thats really explained what it is.

An outstanding web app that's all PHP.

This Web 2.0 stuff is really interesting. The concepts behind it are very interesting.

I am not 100% sure I am happy with the way they say the web is going though. I am sure things will change over time as they do. Excellent article 🙂

I had originally posted zencart because the whole package truly is a collaborative effort... but then I started thinking about it and wouldn't any open source app be considered Web 2.0 based on that criteria? OR is my interpretation skewed and they are referring to something more along the lines of Ning?

Use the check list from the article:

Services, not packaged software, with cost-effective scalability
Control over unique, hard-to-recreate data sources that get richer as more people use them
Trusting users as co-developers
Harnessing collective intelligence
Leveraging the long tail through customer self-service
Software above the level of a single device
*Lightweight user interfaces, development models, AND business models

The key seems to be having an "architecture of participation", wikipedia.org seems to have most of the above.

I believe no, not all open source applications are Web 2.0 :quiet:

I know of a much better rich text editor, its free for all uses... couldn't be muffed telling you though cos you're not worth it.
