best practice for uploading to a different server

I have a site on one server with increasing amount of media content (music samples and photos of gigs etc). I intend on renting another server to be used purely for storage for this site and any others in the future that might need the extra space and bandwidth.

What i am hoping people here can tell me is what is the best (most secure, reliable, least resource consuming) way of using php on one server to uploaddelete and work with files on another server?

I'm not really sure what you trying to do, but as far as uploading/deleting files to/from another server, you can use FTP functions inside PHP, so it'll work as if it was an ftp program.
