folder-file manager

Hello all,

I'm trying to create a simple file manager. The problem that I'm facing right now is how to create folders within folders (subfolders) and store them virtually in mysql and not on the filesystem.

I know this is more of a general question so any links to tutorials, examples or other related projects that can help me would be appreciated.

the usual way to handle this is to have each folder record in the db have another field called "parent_folder_id" or whatever that relates to another record that is the parent folder. the topmost folders would have a NULL value for this field.
