File Checksum

Hey,

I know that checksums are usually run on smaller pieces of data, such as strings. I was wondering if there is a way to run a checksum on an entire file, to make sure that is has not been modified or tampered. As a side note, this file is not a plain text file. It would be something like an MP3 or a Flash SWF file.

That's exactly what [man]md5[/man] was invented for (see RFC1321).

Awesome. md5_file was what I was looking for. It works exactly how I thought/wanted it to. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
