Hi There -

Have been looking for something that does what your 'upload snippets' section does - a categorized section and then inside categories, you have the various pieces of code listed in that category. Click on a title and get taken to that snippet's page, where versions are available for download.

What is this called? I'm wanting to call it a snippet archive.

I'm wanting to do the same thing, but versioning other types of files. I've seen a similar snippet section on MamboServer.com which leads me to think the code is OUT THERE.

The problem, when I search for snippet archive, is that I get a lot of sites' snippet archives, not the code or a module for one. I don't know enough terminology to intelligently search for it beyond what I've said here.

If anyone knows what these structures are called, or better yet, where I can get the code, I'd be eternally grateful.

Thanks for answering, kakki. I tried the download link at the bottom of the pages and on the right side of the home page, but it took me to another site and I didn't know the name of what I'm searching for. I also tried in the snippets library and couldn't figure out what it's called.

Can you give me a URL, or at least tell me what it's called so I can do a search of the site? Is it on the site? I'm sorry I'm so dense. Please give me some more information. Thanks, Lee

It's just called a Code Snippet Library. You could do it yourself if you wanted. A simple mySQL backend and a nice user interface and you can make it your own.

Brett! You're terrific!

This is what I was looking for. It's set up to store textfiles, though. I'm trying to put something together for the kids that does cad files and eps files and tutorials for how to make stuff and sections for them to show off what they've made.

I'm a true newbie at PHP and terribly intimidated. Do you have any tutorials that would help me get my mind wrapped around this type of project so it doesn't loom so large? I've done basic employee data exercises with mysql and have made a page that includes text off of another page that gets edited from another page.

What would be my next step in approaching this project? Mapping out all the fields that I'd need in the database? Designing the page functionality?

I've downloaded the PHP-CSL and looked at it. There are a ton of files. Seems huge and complicated, but I don't know what's normal.

To allow PHP-CSL to upload other file types, you could always try and see if in the code there is a spot to add MIME types. Then you can add the eps and all other MIME types that you need.

As far as your project, sit down, and write it out first. Ask yourself every imaginable question, and then ask some more. Answer them all too. The database should be fairly simple, just mimmick that of PHP-CSL.
