After a fairly long, quite satisfied use of HomeSite as my code editor, i decided to try something new after reading a testimonial in a Text Editor Review at www.csscreator.com where a user described his fondness for TSW WebCoder 5. since i installed WebCoder, i haven't opened HomeSite but maybe once to do a comparison-- it's that cool, robust, and very customizeble! (i'm particularly fond of the way you can stick single buttons, pretty much exactly where you want , or need them for your best experience! not just moving the whole toolbar which is usually the case in such a customizeable environment, it seems to me...). So while being freshly hyped about this new editor, i happened upon the article here at PHPBuilder regarding Eclipse so i decided to d/l and give it a whirl.
well, i am really impressed w/ it... would you have guessed? hehe. but, i'm having some problems-- which i actually expected might happen. for 1.), it's just my luck, and 2.) it's a Java app (see 1.)). anyway, what i'm trying to figure out is where might be the best place to seek help for it? as usual, i realize i can go to their forum, but i really trust the advice i receive from the users here-- there are so many of you who just seem to have "been around the block" when it comes to stuff like this, so i thought it couldn't hurt to ask!
if you have a recommended forum, or maybe you have a recommended usage-- as in "if you're going to use Eclipse, make sure you download, in addition to PHPEclipse plugin, you should also have____ ".
in particular, just in case you can help me right here, my problems are as follows: if i open a php file (only thing i've tried so far), and click in the editor, i get an error, then one more (for good measure?), and then it will let the cursor go in there so i can edit the code. i tried changing the perspective from Java to PHP and created a new project, and a new file, but i think i have the internal browser misconfigured-- have it at apache/htdocs/ instead of how i need it, htdocs/wwwroot in my install, yet the folder and doc WAS created upon investigation w/ external browser. it just seems like i'm missing some plugins or something to get it to work properly. for one, under Eclipse program menu Window>Prefs>PHPEclipse Web Dev>PHP (PHP Preferences), under Apache settings, i see the first two fields pertaining to: c:\xampp\xampp_start.exe , yet nothing resembling that is anywhere on my C: drive. i searched for "xampp" on my entire C: and my F: slave, and the results came up nothing except the "xampp_start.gif" files from the Eclipse program folder (and the zip archive). any ideas on that one?
thanks alot!
