not reading php.ini

Hello,

I am running Redhat ES Release 3, Apache 2.0.46, PHP 5.0.5. I used the --with-config-file-path option to set the path to php.ini. After installation, I run phpinfo() and see my php.ini file in the correct location. However, none of my other settings, like max_execution_time, are showing up correctly. Still getting the default value of 30. There is only one php.ini file on the entire server. Restarted apache, even re-built

Any ideas?

BTW - I am a PHP newbie!! So be gentle!

In case anyone is interested, I think I solved my problem. It seems that phpinfo() does NOT necessarily report the php.ini file that is actually getting used. I went to the root php folder from the .tar distribution - the folder where php-ini.recommended is installed - and just copied php-ini.recommended to php.ini. I made my changes in this copy of php.ini and restarted apache. The changes then showed up in phpinfo() - even though phpinfo() still showed that I was reading /etc/php.ini. Must be a bug.

Hope this helps someone else avoid the hours that I spent trying to figure this out!!

Well, there is something truly bizarre about the behavior. For some reason, after reinstalling everything, the php.ini file in /usr/local/lib seems to be the one it is using - and shows up in phpinfo() as well. That appears to be a default location on the initial install. I really don't know what's happening here, but it is really confusing!! Hopefully this location will keep working.
