style text in the $mailbody tag

Hello.

I've been trying to figure out how to style some contents in the $mailbody tag, but I cannot figure out the proper usage.
It would be helpful to know this so I can apply any sort of styles, including font sizes and such.

Could someone help me?

An example would be:
$mailbody.="<strong>User Name</strong>: $name\n";

Is the email in HTML? (Have a look at the mail function's manual page to see how to send HTML email).
