ereg_replace question

Hi from newbi.
i in need of your help.
i have a $var="one two three four";
i need to replace spaces with plus (+) so it look like "one+two+tree+four";
any idea how to do it?

$var = ereg_repalace('[ ]+', '+', strtolower($var));
