whats your opinion?
Im setting up a website with cookie tracker? Which do you feel would be a better solution.
The website assigns a cookie to the computer upon pulling up the first page. If no cookie is found on the system, I assign a random generic cookie to the pc. I track the customer as she browse. After browsing for a while, she decides to log in under her uname and password because she already a member of the site.
Here is the question:
Do I
1) log all the info from the generic cookie into the db, kill the generic cookie on the computer, then pickup with tracking the member with their previous cookie id from where they are until the session is over.
OR
2) before killing the cookie add all tracking information to the members previous tracking information before killing the generic cookie.
In my opinion, I believe that option 1 is better becuz option 2 could be on a shared computer... there could be 15 different users on the system before a member logs in and if I add the generic info to the member info it wont be to accurate..
I am on the right track?
