<a href within print()

i got some code where i need do display a link

heres the line of code:

print("<tr><td>$itemid</td><td>$itemname</td><td>£$itemprice</td><td>$itemimage</td><td><a href="$buyurl?code="$reg"&id="$id">Purchase?</a></td></tr>");

but it kees giving me
Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/homer090/public_html/global-european/shopfront.php on line 42

its got something to do with the <a href> tag but i cant think why its doing it?

You need to escape the double quotes in the string argument. PHP is looking at the first double quote in the href and htinking its the end of the print string - then it throws an error when it gets to the next one which is out of context.
Escape them like so: \"

nope still not workign heres the errror:

You only escaped the first double quote in the string. You have to do what subwayman said for ALL the quotes, except for the first (the one that starts the string) and the last (the one that ends the string). Otherwise, it has no idea where the string starts and ends.

doesnt matter sort edit by escaping the first one thats is at het begging of the URL then using single quotes fo the rest of teh url and double quots to close the URL thank for getting back anyway

ok new problem ive got the purchase link to include the user id their reg code and the item they purchased's id this is passed to the file itemdbupdate.php which uses the variable to determine the ocst of teh item and which account to deduct the amount from but the variable are echoing with the escaping slashes stil in place how do i remove them before the php process them?
