Sorry if this has been posted and haven't gone back far enough, but here goes:
Here is what I am confused about. I am trying to set up a bulletin board using phpbb. First is this just using PHP code that has been set up to do this, or is a completely different thing? (different language) Second, my hosting company godaddy.com only supports some scripts (saying this right?) on there windows based hosting plans, so I had to move it to a linux based hosting plan. Is this normal? I am just curious about this point more than anything. Third, As far as testing goes, do I have to upload the work to the site and the preview it there? I have tried to download PHP, MySql, and Apache so that I can test it locally (using dreamweaver mx2004 if that helps) but have not been able to accomplish this, but could be a ID 10 T error. I should be able to do this right? Not that it matters because I know that I can save directly to the site and just preview it that way, but just in case I do not have access to the internet when I am working on it I would like to do it locally. If there is a way to do this, is there any help guides that are easy to run through that anyone knows about? Fourth question, just a general one, but I have WinXP Pro and I see and option on Add/Remove win componets for IIs - is this the same thing that Apache is asking for when you install it, or is this just a small module of it. If it is not the whole thing and is just part- is this something that you have to buy or does it comes with another MS program?
