ok so this is driving me insane...

i have been trying to learn php but have not been able to open any php files i have uploaded in my browser. a little bit ago i uploaded the same test php file to 3 different servers. it works fine on one of the servers. oddly enough, another hosting account & domain i uploaded it to (odd b.c. it is the same exact plan on the same host) does not work. it says the page cannot be found. and it does not work on my third different host/domain, also not found. what am i missing here?

please someone help me i am going to shoot myself. i am supposed to figure out how the heck to get fckeditor to work to edit a page for a client by tomorow, and have no friggin' clue what i am doing. and on that note, can anyone please help me with that? client needs to be able to log in, and edit text for 2 out of the 20 something pages. this is all just way over my head.

this is the first page
you should run
to see if PHP works at all in your server or webspace:

you can name it, and save and upload as
"phpinfo.php"

<?php

phpinfo();

?>

When you run this, you see if it works
and if it does, it will tell you a lot of settings and how webserver and php is configured

still nothing. i don't understand. my server says it supports php.

edit: and in cpanel it says under server info: PHP Version 5.0.4

Seems somwhat obvious to me that your actual webserver root path and the path you think it's at may be wrong. If you stick "isthisthepath.html" in there can you browse to it?

ok, so the php issues have all been solved.. been trying to figure out fckeditor. apparently i need to upload the files for editing to a mysql database. i don't know anything about my mysql, except that i have unlimited databases, and that they have tables and fields, and all kinds of other confusing elements that are beyond me at this point.

can anyone please explain to me how to upload files to a mysql, and also "connect to the database and pull in the text of the requested"????

I do not know what webserver you are at - what host
but they usually have a support forum or FAQ for their users

Where they tell such elementary things as:

how to manage MySQL database

I would imagine any serious webhost
should give you a link to login to
- phpMyAdmin

which is the normal webinterface to work with MySQL
also they should have given you
PhpMyAdmin username and password

If these things cant be found at your webhost website
or in introduction/tutorial for new users
I should consider change to a better place ....

It sounds like a breakdown in communication between you and your host.

You don't need to go near mysql until you are ready to, and have a database application which you want to get working. If you just want to upload a simple PHP script which doesn't use any database data, then it makes no sense to "upload the files for editing to a mysql database".

I don't know anything about fckeditor, but if you don't like it, you shouldn't have to use it. You can edit your files using your own favourite editor on your own PC and then upload it to your server when it's ready.

Try contacting your host again, you may get through to a less confused staffer there. If not, try a different host who is competent in differentiating arses from elbows.
