Retrieve data from database using php

I stored some data in database(FullName,Occupation,etc).I want to retrieve data from that database using php.But there is a condition:
If i enter part name that also want to retrieve.(I did the part that if i enter samename in the database that can be retrieved).
for example:I stored "Saathujaya Siva" in database in the FullName column.If i enter "Siva" that also want to retrieve.
I don't know it is possible or not.please help me.

% is a wild card.

Middle par of data? What do you mean. Example, please

Do you mean you have the name "fernashes" and you search on "ash" - and you still want to have a hit with fernashes?

Then that %like% will work for you.

Basically, like means "find anything LIKE this..."

Eg LIKE 'fern%' will find anything like...
- fern
- fernashes
- ferny

But not
- badfern
- badferns

Make more sense?

Thanks a lot first .I used %LIKE% to retrieve.
Eg:
Saathujaya Siva
I used %thu% to retrieve saathujaya.
But one of myfriend told there is a mysql function to retrieve and anotherone told there are mnay type of SELECT queries so one of it want to use for that part.I totaly confused.Are there any functions or select queries to solve this type of task?(Please don't think as a foolish question)

Perhaps your friends should answer the question. Using a select with 'like' is the way to do it.
