lil help please

Im working on a project someone else has already started, and im coming across some things ive never seen before. This program works on the server I got it from, but when i try to move it to a different server, im getting problems.

1)Ive come across a command ive never seen before, and google seems to have no idea about it either. trim_requests(). anyone know what it is?

2)He seems to have included html code in the php encosed in <<<END END; tags. Ive never seen this before. does this make sense? dreamweaver doesnt seem to think so.

there is no PHP fucntion by that name. it must be a custom fucntion written by the previous developer.

that is the Heredoc syntax.
