PHP and dynamic textfields

Hey There,

I got a question regarding PHP and, I guess, javascript... (I dont know it this is the right place to post thoug..)

I've got a database with category's, subcategory's and fields
The subcategorys are coupled to the category's and the fields are coupled to the subcategory's.

Now, I got 2 dropdown-boxes where you can choose a subcategory depending on the parent category.. They are chained and working.

Now I would like: When I select a subcategory, the page should be filled with the fieldnames(which depends on the subcategory) connecting to a couple of textboxes. The problem is that every subcategory can have a different number of fields, so a variable number of textboxes should appear.

I'm not that good at explaining, but if someone understands what problem I have and if there's a solution for this?

If this is the wrong place to post, plz tell me where this belongs..

I think I'm having the same problem but mine is on the other end, I have the boxes that are dynamically loaded depending on the database table, what I don't have is the update to update the content through $_POST...

Are the catagories listed in a database? If so, use a database query to grab your menus and load them with a while loop...

Help at all? Maybe I'm off track on what you're asking?

Are you wanting to update the page without refreshing it and add more text fields based on the fields required by the sub-category?

I know how you can do it with refreshing the page. I'm not sure how you can do it without updating/refreshing the page (perhaps ajax?)

I already got the category's displayed in the selectbox, the problem is showing the right fields

I was indeed looking for a way to update without refreshing if that would be possible..

If you need to update without refreshing the page you have to use iFrames (Remote Scripting).
