Uploading pictures and shrinking them according to the requirement

I have a photo album and gives the ability to the user to upload there pictures, Now i want to store the pictures on the webservers folder but shrinking the size accordingly.

If the user uploads a pictures of 2MB, i want to shrink the pixels, resolution and the width and height of picture to 200KB.

Please what are the things i need to have in order to do the above requirement.

You can change the display size of the pic on your screen but unless I'm very much mistaken its impossible to change the physical filesize and natural attributes of the image.

If I'm wrong, i'd love to know how this is done myself.

Yes, it is possible. But want to know how to do. Yahoo photo albums and lot of other online photo album shops they all shrink the size of a file.

What I mean is I reckon its impossible via php, they probably have some other 3rd party application that does it.

Either that or some poor bugger that sits there and resizes images all day long 😉
