Standard for navigation links between pages

Someone just asked me about this, and it made me think. Is there a standard for creating navigation links between pages?

Like if someone messes up entering data into a form, and I have to create an error page telling them to go back to the form. What's the standard for creating this link? Just using HTML? How about generating images using PHP? What about Flash buttons? What about using javascript's image rollover ability?

Without getting philosophical, I'd say a great big no. What relevance does this have to PHP anyway?

As for your example, I choose none of the above. I think it's easier to submit the form to itself for showing errors and serializing the form.

1) process form on same page
2) if 1) isn't possible, I'll say "Use your browser's back button to fix these errors"

Hmm... For the forms, I'm using the standard buttons that I guess HTML provides. I was just curious about other kinds of navigation.

In terms of relevance, I'm working on a PHP project right now, and the situation came up. You know, like creating "Print Search Results" links, and creating "New Search" links, and creating "Back" links, etc. A friend wanted to know if this is possible using PHP's image functions, and I was like "what about just using HTML, or maybe Flash, or maybe javascript and rollovers". It is kinda off topic, but I thought I'd ask anyway since I couldn't find a forum that covers all these topics. My bad though if I messed up.
