File System functions & FTP functions

Hey all,

I guess what I am really after is more of an explaination to what are the differences between the two sets. The manual really does a piss-poor job of explaining things sometimes. Some miss the 'introduction' completely :glare: Either way, I tried google and a search before I posted but here I am.

Are you talking about using an FTP session in php versus using the built in PHP file manipulation functions?

If so, I know one of the differences is if you use PHP to edit/create files, then the owner is whatever PHP is running as. If you use FTP from within PHP, then you are modifying the file(s) based on whatever user you input as the FTP user.

Okay here's a revised question as I done a piss-poor way of asking 😃

I would like to know what File System functions are primarily used for and what they can and can not do well. I would also like to know what FTP functions are best used for and how they differ from File System functions as well as what they do well and what they don't do well. Does this clear things up? :bemused:

Even a link to an online article would be nice. Google aint being helpful to me.
