Basic Question in php?

I am NewBie, i need to know whether i can get the remote operating system using php.

I will have the name of the machine with which i need get the OS name is this possible?

I don't think so. The phpinfo() command will show you just about everything you can learn about the client - which isn't much, and can all be forged.

Looking at phpinfo() on some random site, I see that

$_SERVER["HTTP_USER_AGENT"] has a value of "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050915 Firefox/1.0.7", which tells you my Operating System, my browser etc - so you could use that if it's populated. It may not always be.

We can get the details of client from browser, but is there anyway to get the details of client from the server?

$_SERVER["HTTP_USER_AGENT"] is a PHP environment variable, so it will be automatically populated (as far as possible) for PHP scripts. Any PHP script running on your server can use that variable to determine what the user environment is.

Don't make any critical decisions on the basis of that variable, as it is easily faked or withheld.
