0 = NULL Problem (I'm afraid)

[FONT=Arial]Hi, I am making an administration for our dogschool with PHP and MySQL
Now I'm trying to make a page for the lessons per hour, day and kind.

That all works okay, exept for the hour-thing
If I put down '%9%' by SELECT , it works fine, but when I put down '%10%' it doesn't work. I think MySQL has a problem with the 0 and the 1.

The field Lesson is one textfield where Kind, Hour, Place, Day and Instructor are all typed behind eachother, like this:
A 10.00 hr Tilburg Saturday Tom

This is what I have 'till now, and it works great if the last 10 is a 9, but if there's a 0 or a 1 in the syntax, it starts coughing :bemused:

SELECT Lesson,ID
FROM Members
WHERE Lesson LIKE '%Tilb%' AND Lesson LIKE '%Satur%' AND Lesson LIKE '%10%'
GROUP BY Lesson

Who knows how I can solve this?

that's very bad data design. why do you have that all in one field?

What does happen when there's a 0 or 1 in the string? I don't see anything wrong with what you posted (although I tend to agree with devinemke, separate columns for each field would make your life easier).

There's nothng special about 1 and 0. Could it be that whoever inputted the data used an O (Capital letter "Oh") insteac of 0 (zero)?

Are you getting any error messges? Or just no data returned?

(And I agree with everyone else about splitting the data into dfferent columns!) 🙂

Hi everyone,

The problem was not a problem after all.
I'm making it in Dreamweaver and de test-button didn't work correctly.
After a long while of trying all kinds of stuff, I tested it online and it worked fine.

The different-column thing, I have to think about that.
I'm really new to PHP and MySQL so that's something for the future.

Enjoy the learning experience 🙂 Once you get over the first couple of speedbumps, PHP is a great way to develop.

Break those fields out, and then use the proper types in the database. It's much easier to expand a system that's built properly from the start, trust me.
