Problem getting correct results from db

Just can't understand this one?

I have a search_form script that asks for various input fields such as :

<select name="property_type">
<option value="%">Any
<option value="Camping Site">Camping Site
<option value="Caravan">Caravan
..........
<option value="House">House
</select>

Once the form fields have been sent it queries the database with :

$query="SELECT * from table WHERE
property_country LIKE '$property_country' AND
property_type LIKE '$property_type' AND
bedrooms LIKE '$bedrooms' AND
golf LIKE '$golf' AND
beach LIKE '$beach' AND
pool or private_pool LIKE '$pool' AND
disabled_facilities LIKE '$disabled_facilities' AND
advertise='$rent' AND
paid = '$y' ORDER BY RAND()";

The problem is that it is giing me the wrong results and I just can not figure out why. YET if i choose to pick certain individual criteria it works fine???

Even down to where it says at the end of the search advertise='$rent' it is sending out results that are not rent??

Your help would be great b4 I throw this bloominmachine at the wall !!

Well, I am not sure this bit will work for you:

AND pool or private_pool LIKE '$pool'

If pool is not a boolean then you could get some real funny results.

Also your use of LIKE whilst on the face of it looks OK it's a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Try building the query likt this:

....

$query .= (property_type != '%') ? " AND property_type = '$property_type'" : '';

...

This will only check for known values in each field and not unnecessarily use LIKE. Seeing as you only use a single wild card of '%' you can just leave out that part of the where clause. This will simplify your queries.
