Need Some Help Editing Template??

Heyas,

This post isn't exactly about PHP, but, I'm sure that a lot of the people that use php also use photoshop, so I thought I'd ask 🙂

I have a template file (photoshop ext.) and I hid a few things on it (by pressing the eye button) but when I go back to "Save As Web Page" It saves it has an image--

I don't really use photoshop at all so... I have no idea what to do 😛

I already have some html code which has the template compiled, however, It has parts in the middle of it which I don't want. Well, I know html okay-ish and even though I tried a few times, I wasn't able to get rid of the middle part without messing up the template...

So, we can either use photoshop to get rid of the middle part (Which you will see has stuff like "Basic Package --and-- 100 MB Disk space... Pretty much all of the text in the "body" which is under the navigation links...

Anyway--I'd appreciate it if someone could still help me out even though it's not exactly about php--

um ya. it probably loads slow cause the whole thing is a bunch of pictures....anywho, download a free 30 day trial of dreamweaver and edit with that.... GOOD LUCK!!!

I have Dreamweaver but didn't know that it could edit this easily--Thanks 😉

EDIT:

Now that I compare the templates, the first one and the code that you gave me, the lined border around it is missing...SO now the template looks a bit "unprotected" from the rest of the screen--

I tried to fix it with dreamweaver mx 2004 but I was only able to delete the images, not the code which also had tables...

seriously, if you plan on developing any kind of web pages in php, you really best learn html first.

ya that too!! But you know you dont even need to know HTML if you are using dreamweaver...Id say start with learning how to use DW better also!!! Seriously what you wanted fixed took me 1 minute. Open it in dreamweaver, delete the table and BOOM! it was set. You shoulda been able to do that also... but i hope what i gave you is efficent for you for now. 😛

I've done your layout in straight up CSS & XHTML 1.1 (utf-8 encoding). It's pretty easy to understand. I've put it online here:

It's a total of 4 images:

Header Image (the one with the dude)
List "X" boxes
Title Icon
The diagonals behind the packages

If you look closely, there's only 4, and it's pretty neat how you can make any design you want with CSS. The drawbacks that are current would be Internet Explorer. Unfortunately IE doesn't like standards. So when you actually code to them, IE spits out junk, while every gecko based browser shows it perfectly. But in my version, they look the same. I suggest you think about this version rather than developing webpages in a graphics program....

Also, it is true that IE doesn't play nice with CSS based designs. That is the main reason I do not use them. Why would anyone want to leave out 85% of the market. As for hacks, well I don't have the time to bother. Tables work just fine for me atm.

The main arguments behind why CSS designs are so great are really petty, any how.

actually, it's not hacks. It's glitches. It's using IE's incompatability in your favor. The "hack" is this:

/ Star a comment */
/ End of the "glitch" */

Basically, IE on the Mac sees the "\" before the "" and thinks that it's a literal "", not the end of the comment. So everything until the next "*/" will be commented.

Then, IE on Windows doesn't play nice with the selector class.

div#main > p.item

Basically, IE doesn't know what to do with it, so it ignores it. What it tells real browsers it that for each paragraph that has the class "item" that is only under (or within) the div with ID "main" do XXX.

CSS isn't that hard, and if you really want to go anywhere, you'll have to learn it eventually. If you don't understand it, then you can really screw up your site. Dreamweaver inputs some really bloat CSS and even doesn't do it perfectly. It's kind of disappointing. But if you know CSS, you can fix it by yourself.

Isn't that what a hack is, finding glitches or bugs to do something else :queasy:

CSS isn't that hard, and if you really want to go anywhere, you'll have to learn it eventually.

I know it I just don't bother with using it to design my whole site, yet. I just don't think it is the answer for everything atm.

The new code that you gave me works great on firefox and IE when it comes to it being with .html ext. I then changed the ext. to .php because I had put some php code in it...Then, on firefox you can't see the borders that go all around the template, but, on IE it looks just like it should?

Is there a way to fix this or will visiters have to use IE to view correctly?

I used to exact same code I used on the page that has the borders...On the page that has the borders, it also has the same code which you have on that ^ post...

I made the border value 1 and then the page got really messed up with lines across it--

I could use the CSS version which looks like it should on IE and Firefox, the only problem being that I know no CSS, plus, I'm not even sure how to make css work with php as I plan on putting a lot of php code into the template.

Is it possible to put a lot of php code into a page that has .html ext.?

I tried it but it didnt work once and then when I switched to .php it did...
I think that the template has a problem with it being .php ext.

No you cant use php with .html....No there is no border on the tables its just the black pictures. You say you dont know CSS but you really dont know HTML either... =/ i would say start from scratch on your template and just the pictures....
