How to insert data into table with " marks

Hi all,

I was trying to insert a double quote " mark in to my field along with some text and could not find a way to do it.

Is it possible to do something like: '".$value."' to concatenate a " with a variable then another " ??

Hi RR,

Maybe I am not expierenced enough, but all that seems to refer to "removing" the quotes, not adding or "including" them into a insert command?

Or am I just not understanding it?

If I have the following:

$name = "Some info goes here";

and I want to concatenate it with Double Quotes before and after the variable.

"Some info goes here"

into the table.

Does that make sense?

You can use mysql string function QUOTE(str):

Or
You can use PHP function htmlspecialcharacters
htmlspecialchars($variable_name);

mysql real escape string add backslashes to special characters that would otherwise break the query string: the backslash is the sql 'escape' character which causes the special character to be ignored when the query string is processed.


$name = mysql_real_escape_string('"Some info goes here"');
// becomes

'/"Some info goes here/"';

Alternative is addslashes() function. This adds backslashes (escape character) before every occurance of " and more.'
