As you probably already noticed, we implemented a new design for PHPBuilder.com today! We're really happy with the way it turned out, and it's been a long time coming. If you find any problems or issues with the new layout, or here in the forums, please post them here in this thread so we can work through and fix them.

I have small things I don't like, but overall it's much better. Is it just me or does it seem snappier (slightly faster load times)?

I am at work behind a firewall, so that might have something to do with this, but I see broken image placeholders for some of the icons on the home page under Hot Threads and New Threads

Seriusly looks good guys the old one was getting a bit out dated.. i havnt come across any errors nore broken images... 1 thing tho on the forum your transparent corners (topleft.gif topright.gif) transparencys not working you should use PNG instead of gifs perhaps? other than that the design is spot on 😃

Like the nice snazzy layout! And I also like that you've kept the old favicon as a vestige of the old layout. 🙂

On my monitor I can't read the top horizontal menus (the one's in boxes). The black text on dark blue background isn't readable. I had to move the mouse over box to box while looking at the link in the status bar. FWIW this is with firefox on XP Pro and a Samsung flat screen.

I like it a lot. Very cool.

One comment is if I disable Javascript, the global nav links practically disappear. (Similar to Doug's comments) But this is a nit-pick comment, and I apologize for even mentioning it COS I really do like the changes.

Yeah it looks alright. Still extremely cluttered. Too much advertising, but you can't help that 🙁 It is easier on the eyes compared to the old one though. I might start using it now 😉

Well, I do like the fact that it got updated. Unfortunately, it still is a bit thin. I'm not a fan of the three-column layout, nor am I a fan of the table layout, but it looks good. I think you guys did a great job. But, there are a few complaints I have:

Overlapping of "ads" if browser is too small (minor issue)
Articles that include code is still run into the ads
Too many ads (9 on just the front page)
Corner images of forum aren't transparent

Other than that, it looks really good. It seems cluttered, but I think it's just due to the amount of information you guys are trying to disseminate. I will say this about the ads: there's got to be a way to cut them down. Having 9 ads on just the front-page is insane. I know you guys make money off of them and all, but why not mix it up just use 4 per page, and only use the horizontal ones? Or add the ability to "minimize" the ads so they're not visible, but are still there? I know I've been given a solution for the ads, but I'd like to support PHPB anyway.

Great job though...

That would come from the code surrounding the advertising; Firefox users who use Adblock reported the same thing with the older look, so OAS_RICH (whatever that is) is supposed to be coming from the adserver. Either they're not sending it, or it's not being loaded when it should be.

Shot 1: same version of Firefox (though on XP), same monitor resolution. No overlap (the difference may be due to different font rendering engines):
Shot 2: Increasing the font size one notch
Shot 3: Normal-sized text - 800x600 monitor resolution. Yep; the list wraps around, so it's not because they're crowded.

I love the new layout, very clean and professional, but still quite...I don't know what word I'm looking for here... "popping" (but in a good way 😉 ). Although, like some others here mentioned, I enjoyed the first logo a bit more... :bemused:

I don't like either logo much - never did.

I actually think it would be best to the drop the <? and ?> completely and just pick a good face for the mark. Perhaps, at that point, make some adjustments to the characters (but it's probably not so necessary). And get some color in it...

If it were me, I think I would try it with...oh heck...doing this quick to see...use a coding face:

Or not...not happy with that...for the heck of it...some other faces since I have Illustrator open right now...

I think I like Rockwell the most. Of course, this thread has no basis in reality. 😉

Note: This will likely be the only time ever in my life that I'll recommened using a webfont for any kind of logo or wordmark.

Comming here for two and a half years and been used to a old layout, however new one seems a lot nicer BUT I have a problem seeing it right. I've attached a screen capture of the top of the main page to show what I mean... Is this an issue regarding the code or is it my configuration doing that... I work on Win2k, 1024x768, Firefox 1.0.7...

I don't mind but it's confusing...

All in all - good work people!!!

And I liked the old logo much better than the new one...
