Where do you buy your domains from?

I've used Dotster quite a bit (dotster.com). But, IIRC, they've another "front end" that is actually priced lower ... if I can find it, I'll try and remember to post it back here...

I've also got one or two at godaddy.com ... generally, they were set up by someone else and then moved under my control....

Who knows how many front-ends they might have ... but they generally seem to do their "work" on a secure server at registerapi.com, and AFAICT this record is the same company as "dotster.com", as shown above....

Dotster has tons of resellers, but all purchases go through Dotster's secure registerapi.com.

I've been using mydomain.com for awhile now, and you can't beat their price 😉

Unfortunately, I don't think you can transfer from big daddy dotster to mydomain.com too easily, either?

But, I could be wrong; I remember that I tried once, and didn't end up doing it. Can't remember why.....

I used to use 000domains.com, which is another dotster reseller, and I transfered all my 000domain.com domains to my mydomain.com account. You need 2 accounts through, one with your original dotster reseller (or big daddy themselves), and one with mydomain.com

It is easy to do. You have to first remove any domain transfer locks on the domains to move over, and then in the domain you want to move, there will be an option labelled something like "Move this domain to another account". Just move it your mydomain.com account name, and it will now be owned by your mydomain.com account and be removed from your old account.

It works great and doesn't cost anything, since you aren't actually transferring it.

IIRC, I didn't want to masquerade as someone else, as 'twere. But, thanks for the pointer ... I could save probably a week's salary per year by going from $14.00 to $8.50 on everything I've got registered.

lol, you don't have to masquerade as someone else. I've got 3 accounts on dotster's API, just different user names. My contact info is the same. One is with 000domains since I used to use them, one with dotster because they will occasionally have $5 domain sales (and if I'm in the mood), and my main used one with mydomain.com that I control all of my domains with.

I doubt Dotster would provide the feature to move a domain from one account to another if there was something shaddy about it.

Hey, now, I said "as 'twere", meaning it's a "pseudo" masquerade. I didn't mean give them fake contact info....

It's just that I prefer to have a limited set of usernames for all the web cruft in my life; too many variations on "DaleCo, S.P." and pretty soon I don't know WTH I'm supposed to type in all the blanks.... :-)
