XHTML MP with PHP

Hi, good day everybody. I'm not sure if this discussion falls into this forum catergory, my apologies if I'm wrong.

I am currently self-learning on how to program a wap site with XHTML MP for use with Mobile phones for online web surfing. I am interested in gaining knowledge on how to integrate XHTML MP with scripts (php, jsp, example scripts ?) that is able to work with some basic functionalities.

For example:
User registration
Log in/out
Uploading/showing pictures
Editing/viewing user profiles.

I have a personal website that supports mySQL, php and sql databases that I can try it out with.

Would be appreciate, and hope that someone who knows how-to can point me to the correct direction where I'm heading.

PHP, like JSP, works on the server (Apache/IIS with mod_php for PHP and Tomcat with or without Apache for JSP) and delivers (X)HTML and/or (X)HTML with JavaScript to the browser. If the browser in question is capable of displaying XHTML MP then you can include it in PHP scripts as you please. You can either include it within the PHP coding by using print/echo statements or you can jump in and out of PHP and code the XHTML MP straight into your file. The only requirement is that any file which needs to be interpreted by the PHP module must be recognized as such by the webserver and passed to the PHP module. This same condition applies to JSP. With PHP, the standard method is to configure the Apache webserver to send all files that end in '.php' to the PHP installation and then serve the result back to the browser.

Thus the client has nothing to with the PHP and doesn't see any of it. I personally only use XHTML and not HTML - but this is irrelevant for my PHP scripts. I could include a completely new and different markup language invented entirely by myself if I wanted. PHP doesn't give a damn. Whether the client browser can display it or not is therefore my lookout. PHP will serve whatever I want to the client.

In short: include whatever dialect of XHTML you please in your PHP scripts. PHP will serve it to the end-device and leave the rest up to you.

I've got php and Mysql working and was looking at some codings of the php scripts which I've found while searching on the internet. You mentioned that XHTML MP can be integrated in PHP, that is correct, thanks for the tips.

To build a reasonable basic wap page requires xhtml, php, and sql databases for the backend server. Any example scripts that touch on the following may offer me advice on how to go about coding it to work for the below?

User registration
Log in/out
Uploading/showing pictures
Editing/viewing user profiles.

Hi Genecola

This very site is a good starting point. The articles section contains many articles on the programming areas you list. However, much of the most up-to-date and well-tested code can be found by searching the coding forum. Things like log-in (forms, session management), picture upload (forms, file verification) and registration (user D😎 have all been done a hundred time before. I have found procedural and OO code examples for all these things on this website.

If that doesn't help, I suggest DevShed, from which site I have used many code examples for things like session management, form verification, XML parsing (prior to SimpleXML) and transformation from XML to HTML via XSLT. In each of these cases the articles offered both procedural and OO approaches. It's a site you should bookmark.

Another excellent source of tutorials is the Zend site itself - the company which co-created PHP4 and now 5.
