radio buttons and their values

I am working in my capstone "senior" project, the deadline in on 21-12-05
the capstone is a educative website designed by PHP

i am working now on online exercises - all multiple choice questions with 2-4 choices-, but i faced a problem when fetching the data from the database

when i use this code:

$i=1;
while ($row= mysql_fetch_row($result2))
{
print "<h4>$i.$row[0] </h4><p>

<input type=\"radio\" name=\"q$i\" value=$row[5] > $row[1]

<input type=\"radio\" name=\"q$i\" value=$row[6]> $row[2]

<input type=\"radio\" name=\"q$i\" value=$row[8]> $row[4]</p>";

$i++;}

the questions appears with their values. some of the question have only 2 or 3 but still in the screen the radio button appears like for example the following>

1- question....
O yes
O no
O
O

How can i avoid this???

hi not sure what you mean, but i shall have a stab at it.

I think you should have 2 tables

table1 => questions
table2 => answers

TABLE -> questions

ID . QUESTION
1 whats the capital of france ?
2 why do french people smell ?

TABLE -> answers

ID . QUESTIONID . ANSWER . CANSWER
1 1 Paris 1
2 1 London 0
3 1 New York 0
4 2 Garlic 1
5 2 BO 0
6 2 Dnt wash 0
7 2 S. breath 0

then you can query

select Q.ID , Q.QUESTION, A.ANSWER, A.CANSWER
FROM questions Q, answers A
WHERE Q.ID = A.QUESTIONID

whats the capital of france ? . Paris . 1
whats the capital of france ? . london. 0
whats the capital of france ? . NewYork . 0
why do french people smell ? . Garlic .1
why do french people smell ? . BO . 0
why do french people smell ? . Dnt wash. 0
why do french people smell ? . S. breath.0

the key is answers.CANSWER which acts as a flag, 0 = incorrect , 1 = correct

Well, this is one sign that perhaps your database needs to be redesigned. It sounds like not only can't it handle five choices, but it causes you trouble with two or three.

for($i=1; $i<=4; $i++)
if($row[$i]!="")
    echo "<br><input type=\"radio\" name=\"q$i\" value=$row[$i+4] > $row[$i]";

Of course, if an empty choice doesn't contain "" for its value, you'll need to check against what it does contain.

My database tables are fine my teacher checked them before he travelled

This Morning i tried a way and it works for me. What i did is like this:
