Multiple Entries for 1 Record

Okay, here's what I want to do. Let's say I have a system to post messages on a members page. I know how to post a message to a user, one at a time, but what if I want to post to several, such as:

Jim - Male - Ohio
John - Male - Iowa
Lucy - Female - Florida
Julie - Female - Ohio
Andy - Male - Florida
Karen - Female - New York
Rex - Male - New York

If I make a new entry, and I select user Jim, he gets it. But how do I select Users in Ohio so Jim and Julie get it? Or Females so all the ladies get it. And also have it so if someone new joins and they are male, they see all "male" postings, etc. I really can't make 1 record and put multiple entries in it can I?

i.e. Male - Jim, John, Andy, Rex
Female - Lucy, Julie, Karen

I guess I want to have groups, but how do I show jim something sent to "males" when his page calls webpage.php?user=jim

My database looks for records with username jim. How can I adapt this?

Your Db will look for records however you specify. So for male you search query would look something like: SELECT FROM your_table_name_here WHERE sex = male
For female in NY something like: SELECT FROM your_table_name_here WHERE sex = female AND state = new york

Not exactly what I'm looking for. When I make a post in the system, I create the story and send it to "jim". When "Jim" logs in, it shows his posts by searching the DB of postings where user="jim". I want to be able to send messages to jim by posting to a group he belongs to, such as "male" or "ohio", and I want to implement this into a current program.

The DB would be something like:

Post_ID - User_Name - Posting

10001 - jim - Test message 1
10002 - jim - Test Message 2
10003 - john - Test Message 3
10004 - julie - Test Message 4

How could I post 1 message:

10005 - female - Hello all Ladies
10006 - ohio - Hello all Ohio People

so an entry to "male" or "ohio" would get pulled up when "jim's" page get's pulled.
