problems with 2 tables

hello all

i have two tables, table A stores mobile_number and call_date. table B stores banned_mobile_number.

i need to fetch unique mobile_number from table A where mobile_number != banned_mobile_number AND MONTH(call_date) LIKE 10.

but i am having troubles figuring out how to do so... all my join queries fetch the wrong results!

It would be good to see your SELECT statement. And also to know how you are storing your call_date data -- I'm not clear on your "MONTH(call_date). I'll give ya my two cents anyway, and hope it helps!

SELECT DISTINCT table_A.unique mobile_number FROM table_A, table_B WHERE table_A.mobile_number != table_B.banned_mobile_number AND table_A.MONTH(call_date) LIKE '%10'

i'm afraid that query will not give me the results i want...

firstly, it will only give me distinct mobile_number for the month of october, instead of distinct numbers from the entire table.

next, it will give me all the mobile_number, inclusive of the banned_mobile_number

fyi, call_date is date format and mobile_number, banned_mobile_number are varchar.

This is one of the things that the LEFT JOIN is for.

SELECT * FROM A LEFT JOIN B ON A.mobile_number=B.banned_mobile_number WHERE B.banned_mobile_number IS NULL

Will return all A that are not in B

WHERE B.banned_mobile_number IS NULL <--- that's all it takes!
