[RESOLVED] String seperation with dashes [easy answer]

Should be an easy question.

How can I take the variable below and put dashes every five characters...

$code = " db1bba7f228613d6565c5086820eb9b7"

It needs to read like this....
db1bb-a7f22-8613d-6565c-50868-20eb9-b7

It also needs to be converted into all caps. Thanks.

Whats an easy way to check in a database and table to see if a row containing a variable exists?

Say I need to check in the Database "Products" in the table "VendorIDs" in the row "ID" for a record?

For your original question, this will remove the leading space from your example string and produce the hyphened string you said you wanted:

$code = ' db1bba7f228613d6565c5086820eb9b7'; 
$split_code = trim(strtoupper(chunk_split(trim($code), 5, '-')), '-');

Thanks "Installer" that orignal extra space was an accident but that trim command could come in handy if the end user puts in extra spaces.

Any ideas on checking if a record exists in a certain table and column.

Table is called Products
Column is called VendorIDs
Row is called ID

I need to check the Row called ID to determine if it holds a certain string.
