Inserting Data Into a DB ... Syntax Problems

Why is this

$cq = mysql_query("insert into challenge (NAME, TIME, LIMIT) values ('$player', $now, $tlimit) ")  

	or die("Error: " . mysql_error());

giving me error message of this?

Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ''NAME', TIME, LIMIT) values ('Tecmo CFP', 1134077168, 113528676

I think that LIMIT is a reserved word in mysql: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/reserved-words.html ...so you may want to enclose it in LIMIT those funky backwords single quote thingies... How is that for an articulate response? 🙂

yeah, LIMIT is the reserved words in mysql, but if you still want to use that word, you can give a blocquate like ` in that field.

for example : insert into challenge (NAME, TIME, LIMIT) values ('$player', $now, $tlimit)`
