MAX() not working

ok correct me if im wrong but isnt MAX() ment to retrieve the highest record from the specified column

because mine isnt in my column i have the highest set to 16 and its pulling the highest as 4?

ok i know why its doing but how can i solve it?

its not looking through the entire table for teh highest its looking fo tthe first highest so as the column that contains the number i want it to find the highest of is not auto increment it is updated evertime someoone submits a report?

so how can i et it to lookdown the entire colum for the highest?

Not quite sure I understand your second post but MAX() selects the highest value in a column, makes no difference if it's auto_increment or not. The syntax for it is here.

i realised what was wrong the fields was no set to 3 chars long and Zerofill#
now it is theya ll the samelength and are read correctly

Oh, well, there you go. If you want to store numbers, use a numeric field, not a text field.
