problem with string in url parameter

to all guru i do have page function and i m trying to replace the ?page=whateverthevalueis with "" now i in my function i have this

$querystring=$_SERVER["QUERY_STRING"];
$querystring=preg_replace("[^{page=[1-9]]","",$querystring);}

THIS WORKS ONLY WHEN THE page value is only from 1-9 but when i reach more than 9 like 10 11 and so on it only eliminate the "page=" and the first value
