Authentication to block bots

Hi,

Not sure if anyone knows how I could do this ....

During some registration processes on some websites they include a random code embedded in a picture - so that a bot may not monitor the code and create lots of random registrations.

Does anyone know how I can do it, or where to get cut 'n' paste version?

Did I explain OK, or do I need to explain this request better?

This is known as a CAPTCHA.

There are plenty of sources already.

Some tips:

Don't implement a CAPTCHA unless you are sure you have a problem with bots registering. If people are registration-spamming your site, implement a limit by IP address or something instead.

I may have to because it will be for a PHP/MySQL game and I do not want people to abuse the 1 registration per person idea.

Why do you say do not implement one?

What are the negatives?

This is an entirely different thing, and a CAPTCHA won't help you

Well, it takes effort to develop, discourages people from registering, and make it considerably more difficult to test your application.

Moreover, catptchas can be defeated by using a pass-through technique whereby other random web visitors do the captcha on the robot's behalf - for example, visitors to a porn site. People have registered thousands of MSN, Google and Yahoo accounts this way.
