Parsing Email : Separating Replies

Hi Everyone,

I'm curious if anyone has any input to offer on how to separate last replies from email message bodies which often contain a string of messages.

Is there a portion of the email message source that clearly identifies which parts are new replies? We also can't rely on message positioning, since some email clients affix responses to the top, and others at the bottom.

Not really; that would involve old messages being rewritten whenever new messages come in. You'd need to look at the Date: header and compare that to something. Maybe look at the subject line as well, and if there's an In-Reply-To: or References: header, compare that to the Message-ID: header of an earlier mail.
