timestamp -- resolved?

I've stayed away from using timestamp values.

Since, I recall hearing (1st timestamp value in table, only) that whenever a row containing a stored timestamp value is re-accessed -- the value becomes updated.

I see this still holds true. (mysql 4.1.14)

Does this hold for future versions?

yes, as that is the whole point of the TIMESTAMP data type. if you don't what the value updated then just a regular DATETIME type.

because I'm using a thrid party solution, (trigger) and don't quite know how to apply the datetime in this situation.

As an alternative, I guess I could have two timestamp columns and keep the second as a record ( the first column recording dates of any "latest entries")
