yes you are right. i posted my problem under coding hoping for some guidance and then posted under newbies for some more help.

i needed help with a drop down menu in php but since i really don't know what i'm doing in php it's hard to ask questions. i need the drop down menu list to be editable by any user that logs onto the site. if you would like to see the code, i will be more than happy to post it.

I'm sorry, but that's not true. It seems to me you want someone to do your work for you. Here are a few tips:

1.) Start with some basic code... like printing out a drop-down menu
2.) Try and get it to post back to itself... and echo the posted drop-down value
3.) Now take that idea, and create a new drop-down menu option from teh posted value

Small baby steps to a large objective, though time consuming, will get you there with few errors. If you run into problems along the way, ask questions about your code, don't ask people to do your stuff for you....

I was gonna give you the code, but I think you're smart enough to sit down and actually work through your problem, rather than have it fed to you.

No, it is true.

How often do you see people post here begging for help basically asking people to code something for them, and get the code they asked for? In my time here, I have never seen it happen. Even though I still ask 5 questions for every one I attempt to answer, I know better than to hope that someone will just code something for me.

The only way to expect real help is to post what you've got, let people look through it, and offer guidance for how to get it to work in the way you're trying.

If you mean "RTFM and post a more specific question" as a form of 'help', then sure I'd agree. But that's not helpful to whooever is asking for free code.

Okay... so where's your code? You come to a coding forum to ask for help. Fine. But you've got to have a starting block. You have to know how it might look.... I mean... you're asking for someone to give you "free code" so that you can look through and implement it in your own system... why not create your own code, and ask for guidance? I don't see any of your code posted.

I'm trying to create a drop-down that will add a custom selection based upon user input from the same form. I get how to do the form, and posting back to the same script, but how do I add the new selection? Here's my code:
