extract data from excel spreadsheet

Hi everybody..

Currently i doing a project with php and mySQL, but i am facing some difficulties.

Firstly, users will upload the excel spreadsheet with information.
Then, i would like to extract all information then insert into the existing database.

In addition, all the information uploaded by the users will overwrite the existing data in the table.

From what i know, it is possible to do so. however i have no idea how to start.
hence, need all your help.. Thanks..

Export the data from Excel as text-delimited. Then you should be able to grab the file contents and put everything into arrays...it becomes pretty easy from there.

Over at the Pear PHP site you can dig up some classes that may be helpful for you. My experience with them wasn't the best...I ended up writing stuff from scratch...

hmm.. Do you mean that the user has to upload the excel as text-delimited?

As the project i doing also involve cms, so that the user can upload the file to the database (which i not so sure about).

Is there a way database can import and insert into the table or must i story into array then insert ?
