automatic file upload

I need a script that will allow a couple text files to be uploaded from a users computer. The problem is that I do not want the submit button. I want to set the refresh to say 5 minutes then on each refresh the .txt files are uploaded to the server and overwrite the old one. I know this sounds like some kind of illegal activity but it's not. I'm writing a script that allows remote monitoring of a group of computers. The .txt files include motherboard temperature, voltage and fan speed data and also folding @ home information.

perhaps a more elegant solution is to run a cron/task on these machines that inserts/updates the relavant data to a mutually accessable database.

I found this article, looks like an ok way of doing this but would be much easier to be able to leave a page open to do the work.
